Deerfield Women ‘dare’ to help kids by Julie O’Neill (WCPO.com)
DEERFIELD TWP., Ohio – Some women in Deerfield Township want you to join them at a local pub to help put police officers in the schools.
The Deerfield Township Women’s Club (DWC) has partnered with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office to help with their D.A.R.E. Program, and they’re determined to raise the funds needed to keep the program alive in schools.
“Unfortunately due to budget cuts, the D.A.R.E. program budget has been slashed,” says Shelley Tobin, a member of the club. “Sometimes the D.A.R.E. program is the only positive contact that kids have with police officers and we feel that this is a wonderful program.”
Tobin promises a “GREAT family event” at Claddagh Irish Pub on June 21st.
It will feature the township trustees as guest bartenders, Sheriff Larry Sims and his staff will be serving guests, there will be Guiness Girls, Sam Adams Girls, The Warren County Sheriff’s Pipe and Drum Corp, and firefighters, Tobin says.
It will also feature door prizes, “surprise” bartenders, raffles and “split-the-pot.”
The fundraiser will be held at the Claddagh Irish Pub at the Deerfield Towne Center on Mason-Montgomery Road in Mason on Monday, June 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Claddagh Irish Pub is donating 10 percent of all sales that evening. You simply eat and drink as you normally would and 10 percent of the bill goes to the D.A.R.E program.
The D.A.R.E. program puts police officers in schools to teach them of the dangers of illegal drug and alcohol use and to give young students the opportunity to get to know police officers and build mutual trust and respect.
